About Quilters AlleyOur quilt shop opened in October 1989 in a small shop located in an alley, giving the store its name - Quilters Alley. We have continued to grow and are now at our third location, with larger classrooms, showrooms, 5,000 bolts of fabric and a private parking lot. Quilters Alley carries a full line of fabrics, laces and notions for quilting, embroidery, lacemaking, tatting, smocking and heirloom sewing, along with a full schedule of classes in all of these modalities. We are the authorized Janome dealer for western Kentucky. We carry Grace quilting frames, Daylight and Ott lamps, Ergonomic sewing chairs, Dovo scissors, Oliso irons and Reliable Ironing Boards. An in-house pleating service is also available. We have designed and completed banners for the Owensboro Cathedral. Toyota commissioned a quilt to hang in the atrium at their Evansville location. In fact, we have made many quilts on a commission basis, including one for Phil Donahue's yacht! About the OwnersPat and John English grew up in the Paducah area and married when he was in the Air Force. Shortly after being discharged from the Air Force, they moved to Illinois. After raising four children, Pat began teaching quilting at the local Public Library and Park District. She was also instrumental in chartering the first chapter of the National Quilting Association in the Chicago area, forming Chapter 100 in Steger. Thirty-one years later, they retired and moved back home to Paducah. Two years later, Quilters Alley became a reality.
About PaducahPaducah is a front runner in the 2011 Dozen Distinctive Destinations because of its historic downtown and riverfront. The murals painted on the flood walls are worth the trip! Paducah also has an Artist Relocation Program that is bringing more and more nationally known quilters to reside here. Of interest to those of you that regularly come the AQS Quilt Show in April, the final section of the Executive Inn went down by the wrecking ball on February 22, 2011. The hope of a new and improved hotel is cheering, but it was also sad to remember when the old was new and wonderful. The city is making improvements all the time. Again this year the show will erect the Air Dome to house all the vendors. The food courts are still in the planning stage. And there is yet another hotel being built at Exit 4 on I-24. |
